Indian Super League concluded with ISL Cup Final and Mumbai City became the winner of the final by defeating Mohun Bagan by 3-1. Mohun Bagan gave away their lead of the first half and can only blame themselves for such a defeat. The 62,007 fans left the stadium with pain of defeat in the final game of the season.Mumbai started the game with high pressing football and Mohun Bagan always looking to defend against them. Mumbai came close of scoring twice in the first half when Chhangte’s cross hit the woodwork on 31st minute and again on 37th minute when it deflected and hit the post. In that period of time Mumbai completely dominated the game play.
Mohun Bagan seemed to wake up by the incidents and regain their spirit on 41st minute. Liston Colaco ran into the box for the first time and came close to score but his near post shot save by the trailing leg of Phurba. But they immediately got their lead on 44th minute when Liston gave the ball to unmarked Petratos who received the ball just outside the 18 yard box. Just like the Odisha Match he took a snap shot which dipped on very last moment. Phurba La Chempa failed to clear his line and Jason Cummings took the oppertunity from the loose ball and make it 1-0. Mumbai was stunned by the incident but regain their spirit after the half time break.
When Noguera delivered a long ball into the box Perera Diaz was surprisingly unmarked and even then Mohun Bagan had the oppertunity to clear the line but Manvir Singh hesitated and Diaz took the oppertunity to make it 1-1.Mohun Bagan was rattled by the goal and lost control of the midfield. Joni Kauko was heavily marked by the Mumbai players and made several mistakes to add more pressure on defense. Although Habas made the substitution and brought Sahal inplace of Thapa but if he replaced Kauko instead it would have been much better under the tensed condition. Habas hesitate under pressure and Mohun Bagan suffered heavily. Mumbai took the lead on 81st when Bipin scored a easy finish from 2 yards 1-2. Chhangte’s initial shot was cleared by Yuste bit his clearance was too weak and Mehtab delivered a pass to unmarked Bipin only couple of yards away from the goal he failed to connect the ball on first occassion but eventually scored. They increase their lead on 97th minute Jakub’s shot deflected and went into the lead. The match was done and dusted.Mohun Bagan never looked settled in the game and players looked out performed. Manvir failed to impress throughout the game and Kauko surprisingly off coloured.
Habas should have replace Joni Kauko and applied some different method. But he was looking clueless and the team eventually paid the price and missed the oppertunity to won the League double and season’s treble.Anyway, this one match do not really define the roller coaster season for Mohun Bagan where they came back from fifth position and lift the ISL League title and became the champion of India. Although the fans were heartbroken but eventually they will keep their held high by the fighting spirit of the team as well as this wonderful supports towards their team.
