Mohun Bagan appoints Alberto Liñán Gómez to handle fitness issues!

After a very successful summer transfer window, everybody expected this season to be a successful one. But since the start of the season, injuries have also been a headache for the Mariners. Just after the Durand Cup triumph, we lost Ashique Kuruniyan due to an ACL injury.
Apart from that, we also missed Anwar, Dimitri, Hamill, and Sahal for important matches. All these affected our team’s performance in the ISL as well as in the AFC Cup.

After the Super Cup, Mohun Bagan management made the decision to appoint a new strength and conditioning coach in order to address the issue. Alberto Liñán Gómez, a Spanish UEFA A licensed fitness coach with past experience at the Sevilla FC academy, joined the team as a result. He was at the VIP stand watching the Kolkata Derby. He began working with Antonio López Habas and Manuel Cascallana the day following the Derby.

Alberto Liñán Gómez is not a new name in Indian football. He was the ISL Cup champion while working for Hyderabad FC in the 21–22 season under Manolo Márquez.

He was previously associated with Al Wahda FC, a club based in the United Arab Emirates, where his team finished second in a Cup compilation. He left the club in March 2023.

Key coaching experiences:

2016-17: Sichuan JiuNiu (China)
2017-18: Atlético Puertollano (Spain)
2018-19: FC Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia)
2019-20: Fudación Marcet (Spain)
2020-21: Kelantan FC (Malaysia)
2021-22: Hyderabad FC (India)
2021-22: Sevilla FC Academy (Spain)
2022–23: Al Wahda (UAE)

He was associated to a football science training and research institute prior to joining Mohun Bagan. He will be a valuable asset to the team.

Meanwhile, Sergi Morera, who was working with the team from the Durand Cup to the Super Cup as strength and conditioning coach, announced his departure through his social media platforms.

We wish him good luck in his future.
